JazzMobile, TK Blue and the Motherland Connection

Sep 22, 2019

T.K. BLUE (Saxophonist/Flautist): composer, educator, bandleader and served as musical director and arranger for the late-great NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston. T.K. Blue has appeared on over eighty recordings and has performed with such artists as Don Cherry, Abdullah Ibrahim, Sam Rivers, Archie Shepp, Dizzy Gillespie, Pharoah Sanders, Melba Liston, Chico Hamilton, Stefon Harris, Regina Carter, Bobby McFerrin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Arturo O’Farrill, to name just a few.

The Motherland Connections explores the correlations between jazz musicians in America and traditional African musicians from the “Motherland.” The performance will also explore the music of the African diaspora, which also carries the torch and cultural aesthetic of a continent rich in ethnic diversity.

This Jazzmobile Education Program is made possible thanks to generous support from: Mayor Bill de Blasio City Council Member Bill Perkins NYC Council – Speaker Corey Johnson and NYC Culture – The Department of Cultural Affairs.
